The short version
TR19 Air is the UK's recognised industry standard for keeping general ventilation systems clean, published by BESA. The duties behind it are law (Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974), and the March 2026 edition raises the bar on the evidence you're expected to hold. Four changes matter most:
The Ventilation Hygiene Register is now formally referenced
Making it far easier to prove your contractor is competent.
New Section 9: post-clean reporting is formalised
Photos, deposit thickness measurements, site plans and a Post-Work Verification Report are now expected on every clean.
Re-alignment with the revised BS EN 15780
Cleanliness classifications have moved, so pre-2026 reports and contracts may need reviewing.
New ductwork sensor guidance
Signalling the industry's shift towards data-driven, condition-based cleaning programmes.
The full breakdown, the history of the standard and a checklist for your building are all in the free pack above.
Your Next Audit Won’t Wait For The Old Standard
The March 2026 edition is already the standard your fire risk assessor, insurer and enforcing authority will measure against. It’s not a future problem — it’s the paperwork on their desk today:
Post-clean evidence is now formalised
Section 9 expects photographs, deposit thickness measurements and a Post-Work Verification Report on every clean. A certificate alone no longer proves compliance.
Pre-2026 reports may not survive review
Cleanliness classifications moved with the revised BS EN 15780. A report issued under the old edition can be challenged in your next audit, even if the work itself was fine.
Competence is easier to check
The Ventilation Hygiene Register is formally referenced, so auditors can verify in minutes whether your contractor is registered. Ours are — and we keep a limited intake of new clients each month so every clean stays with our own engineers, never subcontractors.
