Questions
The questions facilities managers, site managers and business owners ask us most — about dampers, ducts, documentation and pricing. Anything we've missed, ring us on 07356 176929.
General
Who are Yorkshire PureAir Compliance?
We are a specialist ventilation hygiene and fire safety compliance contractor based in Yorkshire, serving commercial clients across the county and the wider North of England. All work is carried out to TR19, BS 9999 and BESA standards by qualified engineers, with an agreed site-specific scope, with certification and report issued upon completion of works and receipt of payment.
Are your engineers DBS-checked?
Yes. All our engineers are DBS-checked and carry ID, so they can work safely in schools, nurseries, care homes, surgeries and other sensitive premises. The engineer who surveys your site is the engineer who carries out the work.
Which areas do you cover?
All of Yorkshire — Wakefield, Leeds, Bradford, Huddersfield, Sheffield, Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham, York, Hull, Scunthorpe and Grimsby — plus the wider North of England. Multi-site and regional contracts are welcome.
What documentation do I get after the work?
Every job finishes with full photographic documentation, a written report and a compliance certificate — issued on completion — ready to drop straight into your fire safety file or satisfy your insurer and risk assessor. Fire damper reports include a damper schedule with pass/fail status for every damper tested.
Fire Damper Testing
How often should fire dampers be tested?
Under BS 9999, fire dampers should be drop-tested at least every two years, and dampers in high-usage or higher-risk buildings more frequently — many sites and insurers require annual testing, and care homes and schools commonly test annually as standard. Your fire risk assessment should state the required frequency — if it doesn't, we'll advise you.
What does fire damper testing involve?
Every damper is located, referenced against your drawings, drop-tested, reset and photographed. You get a written report with a pass/fail record for every damper, plus remedial actions for any failures. Where a damper just needs cleaning or a spring reset, we fix it on the day where access allows.
Do you repair failed dampers too?
Yes — simple remedial work (cleaning, resets, spring replacements) is done on the day where possible. Anything bigger gets photographed, documented and quoted separately so you know exactly what's outstanding before your next inspection.
How much does fire damper testing cost?
Pricing is per damper and depends on access, damper type and site layout — which is why we don't publish a one-size rate card. Every quote starts with a free site survey: we visit, count and reference the dampers, check access, and give you a fixed written quote with no obligation. You'll know the exact figure before you commit to anything.
Kitchen Extract Cleaning
How often does a kitchen extract system need cleaning?
Under TR19 Grease, frequency depends on usage: heavy-use kitchens (12–16 hrs/day) every 3 months; moderate use every 6 months; light use annually. Your insurer will expect evidence that cleaning matches this schedule — grease buildup in ductwork is one of the most common reasons fire insurance claims get queried.
What does TR19 Grease cleaning include?
The full system — canopy, filters, ductwork, fans and discharge — cleaned to TR19 Grease measurement thresholds (200μm surface grease for a full clean, verified to 50μm post-clean). You receive a certificate and photographic report for your fire safety file.
How much does kitchen extract cleaning cost?
It depends on system length, access and how much grease we're dealing with. Rather than guess over the phone, we price every job after a free site survey and give you a fixed written quote — no obligation, no surprise extras on the day.
Ventilation, AHUs & Air Quality
How often should supply and extract ventilation systems be cleaned?
Under TR19 Air (2026), ventilation systems and air handling units should be inspected at least annually, and cleaned when contamination levels exceed the standard's thresholds — or on a fixed schedule for higher-risk settings like care homes and healthcare premises. We inspect, measure and only clean what needs cleaning.
What is an air quality survey and do I need one?
An air quality survey (to CIBSE TM40 and WHO guidance) measures what's actually in your building's air — particulates, CO2, temperature and humidity — and identifies ventilation problems behind complaints, stuffiness or sick-building symptoms. It's increasingly requested by landlords and facilities teams as evidence of a healthy workplace. If you're not sure, take our free compliance check — it takes two minutes.
Can I bundle everything into one annual plan?
Yes — that's exactly what our Complete Compliance Plan does. Fire damper testing, kitchen extract cleaning, ventilation cleaning and air quality surveys under one contract, one schedule and one fixed price, so nothing slips between contractors. Most clients find it costs less than managing four separate suppliers.
Pricing & Booking
Do you charge for the site survey?
No. The site survey is free and carries no obligation. We visit, count the dampers or measure the ductwork, check access, and give you a fixed written quote. No pressure, no hidden fees, no surprise extras on the day.
How quickly can you quote and carry out the work?
Quotes typically follow within 48 hours of the survey. Most jobs are booked within two to three weeks, and we hold slots for urgent remedial work — if a failed damper or an inspection deadline is pressing, tell us and we'll prioritise it.
